Anniversary Gift
December 1st was my 5th anniversary with the company I work for, so today I received a link to an online catalog from which I may choose my very own gift. Goodie.

Anyway, I've managed to narrow it down to a few choices, but I'm looking for some feedback.

And the choices are...

Delonghi espresso/cappuccino and coffee bar. 10-cup coffee carafe and 4-cup espresso carafe. Features drip interrupt that lets you pour before brewing is complete, adjustable steam emission for espresso or cappuccino pressure safety, removable water tank for easy cleaning and filling and swivel jet frother.

Bushnell 525 x 3mm deep space reflector telescope. Features variable height hardwood tripod.

Coleman 40-quart thermoelectric cooler. Cools to 44 degrees F. Can be used in a horizontal or vertical position. Includes 120 volt power supply.

Solid beechwood breakfast bar set with wheels. Features two stools that can be stored within folding unit, drop-leaf table, two drawers and towel bar. Sets up easily, glides on casters wherever you need it.

Honestly, it was a toss-up between the coffee/cappucino maker and the cooler. Both are sweet. All four are excellent choices, though.

I've been considering both those things for a while, too. :/

Heh. Which is the higher in value or are they about the same?

err... "Which is higher in value..." Ignore the errant 'the'... I need more caffeine.

I don't think that telescope is very good. The numbers in the name mean 525x magnification, 3mm eyepiece. From what I can tell it also has a 60mm objective lens, and is neither a reflector (it's a refractor) nor is it any good at deep sky.

The general rule of thumb in astronomy circles is that anything marketed by magnification (which depends entirely on the eyepiece, not the scope, so manufacturers can artifically pump it up for marketing) rather than objective lens size is probably not of sufficient quality to bother getting.

A real beginner scope made by one of the more reputable company like Celestron, Orion or Meade won't run you very much more than that Bushnell retails for, but will be much higher quality in every way. Then again, for free, it can't be too bad. But my advice is to get one of the other things for now.

Well, it edged out the sets of silverware, at least. ;)

How have you been? I haven't heard from you since, like, the Pleistocene. Everything going well you and the fam?

No, that's fair. It would probably be a lot of fun even if it isn't a very good telescope, I just didn't want you to end up disappointed. :)

I'm around. Things have been super busy, especially at work. (which is what I should be doing right now, unfortunately R&D reports are due, and they're *so boring*, so I'm on here procrastinating instead)

Family stuff is complex, but overall good. Me, personally, I've been great. I'm fixing up my finances and trying to collect some savings so my brother and I can buy a house here in Calgary.

Geez, if I worked for any of the places I worked for five years I'd probably get a "don't you think it's time to be moving on now?" plaque.

:P

That is so hard to choose from, argh! I'm weirdly inclined towards the coffee bar, though, just because I've always wanted one to be able to make the drinks I made at the coffeehouse without having to still work there :P I just go, steam wand, w000t! I miss making my drinks since I don't trust all these new baristas who mess up my (decaf) drinks :)

The cooler is nice but where would you use it, you don't go on many picnics :P Although you could use it in the summer as to put the pop and stuf. Bah, I dunno. What does A say?

Yeah, I think I would go with the coffee bar. Seeing as how I don't drink coffee, it is odd, but I still would want it, I can make all my chais and decaf lattes and foamy hot chocolates and stuf.

Wow, I haven't had a mocha in months... must remedy that.

This is so odd. I just went to your journal and wow, pretty colours and stuf! And new design and new name and all! And I realized that you've made two posts recently but I never saw them on my friends page, how odd :/

Pooh! I go read them now.

Pretty new layout-colours tho :D

I don't think I can give a meaningful vote - they all look neat. I'd look at which you'd use most often - and which will disappoint the most if it's low-quality. On likely quality alone I suspect I'd go with the coffee-maker. (Which is ironic, since I dislike coffee, but you obviously don't, so that's not really a data point, just amusing.)

You're too lazy to learn an espresso machine. ;) And anyways
it would end up being used in you apt alot. But when? I would think the cooler is definitely the way to go.
